We turned this dark barn into a bright and open space while maintaining the private, tucked away feeling that makes it such a gem. We cleared several trees to allow light into the space, and immediately started on the renovation from there. The 500 square foot main level was cramped and inefficient in a way that made it feel smaller. We knocked down all interior walls to open it up and focused on the kitchen and living area as focal points. The open floor plan made the space feel bigger and brighter.
I replaced all electric, plumbing, flooring, and windows throughout the house, giving it the updates it needed while retaining the Vermont charm and bones of the house. We installed a spa shower upstairs with radiant-heated floors and a wood stove in the living room for cozy touches. The windows, paint, and new fixtures transformed this cottage into a bright sanctuary fit for any season.
